Civil Engineering in a broad sense deals with the engineering of planning, construction, and maintenance of the structures, or public works, as they are related to earth, water, or civilization and their processes. Most civil engineering today deals with power plants, bridges, roads, railways, structures, water supply, irrigation, the natural environment, sewer, flood control, transportation and traffic. In essence, civil engineering may be regarded as the profession that makes the world a more agreeable place in which to live.
One of the primary engineering departments at Bineswar Brahma Engineering College, Kokrajhar is the Department of Civil Engineering. That offer Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree under Gauhati University, Guwahati.
The Department also registers for Quality Improvement Programs (QIP) under Continuing Education Program (CEP) for Diploma Colleges of the region as social initiative. It also organizes special courses as well as short time refresher courses from time to time with participation both from academic and officers serving in State Government.
The Department also actively promotes curriculum development activity by updating existing courses curriculum through undergraduate final year project, preparing resource material for teaching and promoting personality development programme.
The department has participated in a number of ongoing research projects sponsored from public and private sector organizations. It also undertakes industrial consultancy works as a part of its interaction with industry and also organizes seminars/symposia for professional interaction.
The department also contributes to the interdisciplinary academic and research activity of the college with the participation in final year project in the Department of Chemical Engineering.
